Get into the holiday spirit with “La Posarela”! This bilingual musical blends the Mexican folk traditions of las Posadas and las Pastorelas and spices them up with music, social commentary and humor. A delight for all ages, this modern twist on the nativity story also addresses issues of immigration and gentrification in San Francisco. As Maria and Jose search for “posada” (shelter) on their way to Bethlehem, a mischievous devil and his sidekick try to prevent them from finding shelter. Two angels intervene and a fight between good and evil unfolds!
The cast of over 70 performers includes members of Community Music Center’s Latin Vocal Workshop, Mission District Young Musicians Program, Coro del Pueblo, Children’s Chorus, Senior Choruses and other guest performers.
Join us for a fiesta after each show with a piñata, atole and tamales.
