The Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco Reunion Concert 2016
Sunday, January 10, 3pm
Come be amazed and inspired! The Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco's annual Reunion Concert celebrates the generations of students who have been band members over 14 years. Founded in 2001 by Bay Area bandleader and San Francisco State University faculty member John Calloway along with Arturo Riera and Sylvia Ramirez, LJYE has been preserving the traditions of Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban music by teaching it to young musicians. The band has opened for jazz greats such as the Cuban bassist Israel "Cachao" López, and jammed with the likes of noted pianist Chuchito Valdés. Current alumni are on tour with Beyoncé, work at Pandora and form part of Mission based band, Soltrón.
