The New Black Fest presents "Facing Our Truth: 10 Minute Plays On Trayvon, Race & Privilege"


The six plays that comprise Facing Our Truth were commissioned by New Black Fest, under the direction of Artistic Director, Keith Josef Adkins, in response to the death of Trayvon Martin and the trial of George Zimmerman. The commissioned  playwrights are a diverse group of accomplished writers.  BACCE presents two evenings of readings and post show community discussions on the topic and the work with some of the Bay Area's sharpest talent.  

New Black Fest is a New York-based theater festival dedicated  “stretching, interrogating and uplifting the Black aesthetic,”

Mona Mansour (The Way West)and Tala Manassah
Marcus Gardley (The House That Will Not Stand, And Jesus Moonwalks) 
Winter Miller (In Darfur)
A. Rey Pamatmat (Thunder Above, Deeps Below)
and Dan O’Brien with composer Quetzal Flores
 
These playwrights were chosen for the range of perspectives they bring to this difficult topic. This production is one of several being presented nationwide. Others include Goiodman Theatre in Chicago, Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington, D.C., Alliance Theater in Atlanta and Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles.
