Paseo Artístico, Cine+Mas SF and KQED are thrilled to announce their collaboration in presenting a FREE screening of The Rise and Fall of the Brown Buffalo, a film by Phillip Rodriguez.
Prior to the screening there will be a reading of The Revolt of the Cockroach People by Ben Bac-Sierra.
Ben Bac-Sierra
A modern day renaissance homeboy, Benjamin Bac Sierra was raised by a widowed mother and the San Francisco Mission District streets. After his honorable service in the United States Marines, Ben completed his B.A. in English at U.C. Berkeley, earned a teaching credential and a Master’s in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, and merited a Juris Doctordegree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Currently, he is a professor at City College of San Francisco, an advisor for HOMEY SF, and a community innovator and speaker throughout the Bay Area. Ben’s essays and stories have been published in newspapers and literary magazines, including World Literature Today, where he was featured as a prominent emerging author. His first novel Barrio Bushidowas presented a Best of the Bay Award and an International Latino Book Award. In 2016, U.C. Hastings College of the Law La Raza Students Association honored him as an Alumnus of the Year.
THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BROWN BUFFALO is a fresh and genre-defying film about the life of radical Chicano lawyer, author and countercultural icon, Oscar Zeta Acosta - the basis for the character Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, written by his friend, legendary journalist-provocateur Hunter S. Thompson.
