ABOUT Indira Urrutia

ENGLISH

Indira Urrutia, a prominent Chilean artist, experienced her early years in a small agricultural community. Later, after living in Santiago, she decided to emigrate to the United States.

During a period of four and a half years, she toured the American continent by bicycle, carrying with her a photographic project that advocated for art, culture and the environment. This project was developed after she co-founded, in 2008, 2Greenprints.org.

In 2015 and 2016, she contributed to the "we are all refugees" project in Greece, offering an ethnographic perspective on the Syrian refugee crisis.

Indira is not limited to photography only; She also explores other art forms such as mixed media, installation, experimental video, and, since 2015, metal weaving. During her work as an educator in the "Friday Night" public program at the de Young Museum, she rediscovered the work of Ruth Asawa, thus reconnecting with the tradition of weaving, a skill rooted since her childhood in Chile.

Since 2019, she has lived in Barcelona and is currently immersed in an artistic residency in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

Her work has been exhibited in prominent places such as the De Young Museum, the Pablo Neruda House Museum in Chile, the Royal Artistic Circle in Barcelona, the Fontecchio International Airport Gallery in Italy, the Cervantes Institute in China and the RAK Art Festival in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

ABOUT INDÓMITAS

Indómitas is a live podcast series hosted by Chelis López of KPOO and Radio Bilingüe, featuring interviews with fierce women artists and activists

Each month in Brava’s Cabaret, Indómitas will interview female singers, writers, poets, activists, artists, journalists, filmmakers, and others – some well-known and some deserving to be – for live broadcast. These 60-minute conversations will cover the women’s stories of achievement, pitfalls, and hopes for their futures.

Be ready for open and honest conversations, where intimacy fosters the sharing of joy, fear, acceptance, and ultimately, the strength of women. It’s our time to be the ones who narrate our stories of who we are, what we do, what matters to us and how we organized and stand up for our rights.

Indómitas Podcast Series will be available through Chelis López’ website, and other platforms.
