Indómitas is a live monthly podcast series hosted by Chelis López of KPOO and Radio Bilingüe, featuring untamable voices of fierce women artists and activists. For the October 2024 podcast, Indómitas will interview Alba Guerra, a restauranteur, warrior and beloved Indómita of Calle 24.

ABOUT alba guerra
ALBA GUERRA
Alba Guerra is originally from El Salvador and came to the United States in the late 80s during the civil war.
Like many immigrants, she arrived full of dreams and hopes for a better future. After working in restaurants, she ended up having her own business "Sunrise" restaurant.
Sunrise not only brought well-being to her and her family but also to the community in the Mission neighborhood.
Sunrise was more than a restaurant, it was a community space where events were held to raise funds for organizations, and Alba generously donated a percent of the sales.
Economic challenges were always present, as a warrior and Indómita that she is, Alba resisted until COVID arrived and finally in 2023 Sunrise closed its doors like many other local businesses in our community.
Alba continues to work for and with her community on Calle 24 and the Mission neighborhood.

Alba Guerra es originaria de El Salvador y llegó a Estados Unidos a finales de los años 80 durante la guerra civil.
Como muchas personas inmigrantes llegó cargada de sueños e ilusiones para tener un mejor futuro. Luego de trabajar en restaurantes llegó a tener su propio negocio, el restaurante "Sunrise", que no solo le trajo bienestar a ella y a su familia sino a su comunidad, a la gente del barrio de la Misión.
Sunrise más que un restaurante, era un espacio comunitario donde se hacían eventos para recaudar fondos para organizaciones y apoyar causas justas para las cuales Alba generosamente donaba un porcentaje de sus ventas.
Los problemas económicos nunca faltaron, pero como luchadora que es, Alba resistió hasta que llegó el COVID y finalmente en el 2023 Sunrise cerró sus puertas como muchos otros negocios locales de nuestra comunidad.
Alba sigue trabajando para y con su comunidad de la Calle 24 y el barrio de la Misión.
