This show will be a film screening of Rent Check Series & Kill Your Landlord, and serve as an album release concert for Rent Check Album.
RENT CHECK SERIES:
Rent Check is a dark comedy series written and directed by San Francisco comedian Mike Evans Jr, and co-directed with filmmaker Jules Retzlaff. Rent Check is about a young Black man going through a quarter life crisis in the year 2020. Throughout the 12 episodes, the show follows Mike on his quest to find his life’s purpose while receiving guidance from an ethereal presence. The cast features up and coming rappers, singers, artists, comedians, and even talking animals from across the Bay Area.
Rent Check is a community funded project. The series is produced by Surge Media Collective, an up and coming Bay Area based media, art, and education focused collective.
RENT CHECK ALBUM:
A collaborative music album meant to shine light on the struggles , values , and perspectives of those present in this creative and cultural movement bubbling in the bay. Made up of over 50 artists, 60+ songs cut down to just 15 tracks to further highlight the stories of this Bay Area Renaissance. This project is executive produced by Mike Evans Jr, Baghead & Afterthought of Family Not A Group.
KILL YOUR LANDLORD:
A short sci-fi horror film where three housemates discover a hidden kitchen behind one of the walls of their one room apartment. Directed by Jill Hill & starring Mike Evans Jr, Amna Vegha & Yoki Lee. The film is produced by Jules Retzlaff & Annie Aguirre of Surge Media Collective.
