Flower is a short episodic film series starring world-renowned ballerina and trailblazer Misty Copeland that tells a powerful story through dance and movement. The film, produced by Copeland and Leyla Fayyaz of Life in Motion Productions, shines a light on intergenerational equity, caretaking and the housing crisis in the Bay Area.
The film is set in Oakland, California, and was created with artists from the Bay Area community including local dancers. The film was directed by Lauren Finerman with music by GRAMMY-winning Raphael Saadiq and choreography by Alonzo King and Rich + Tone Talauega.
Flower marks the first independently produced endeavor from Life in Motion, founded by Copeland and Emmy-winning writer-producer Fayyaz, and was co-created by legendary filmmaker Nelson George.
The program will feature a Q&A with Misty Copeland, Alonzo King and Lauren Finerman.

2023 Fall Festival
SFDFF presents its 14th annual Festival. From September 22 – October 15, international and locally produced dance films will be featured in various San Francisco theaters and streamed online. From October 5 – 8, SFDFF will be co-presented with ODC. All programming will take place in person at ODC Theater, along with streaming access to select programs on ODC Connect, ODC’s video streaming platform. At the close of the Festival an invited jury will announce its selections and give awards in six categories.
